Urine flow study is a diagnostic procedure to evaluate the rate of urine flow when a patient voluntarily empties the bladder (voids).
Indications
- Difficult or incomplete bladder emptying
- History of urethral stricture
- Prior surgery on the prostate or urethra Procedure
Procedure
In a procedure room the patient sits or stands (depending on his or her usual voiding habit) over a special measuring device and voids into a container just as he or she would at home. The device then measures the amount voided and how long this takes. The urine flow rate is then calculated, and the urine remaining in the bladder is measured.
