Patient instructions for CT scan with contrast

Your appointment is scheduled in our office

on _______________ at ____________ with Dr. ___________________.

1. You must drink 3 sixteen ounce (16 oz) glasses of water in the three hours prior to your exam.
2. Drink water ONLY.
3. Urinate as you normally would- do not try to hold your urine.
4. If your exam is scheduled in the morning (before noon):
   Do not eat or drink anything (except water) after midnight
5. If your exam is scheduled in the afternoon:
   Do not eat or drink anything (except water) after 8 AM
6. If you are a DIABETIC and take GLUCOPHAGE (Avandamet or Metformin): Be sure to stop it 24 hours before your exam and do not take it 48 hours after the exam.
7. If you are allergic to IODINE: Be sure your physician has ordered additional medications to be taken before your procedure.
