Patient Instructions for CT Scan of Abdomen/Pelvis with Oral Contrast

Your x-ray is scheduled on ___________________ at _________________ AM/PM.

Take all of your regular mediations the day of the x-ray.

Tell us if you are taking Glucophage, Metformin or Avandamet. Be sure to stop it 24 hours before your exam and do not take it for 48 hours after the exam.

Bring a list of all your current medications with you.

FOR X-RAYS SCHEDULED BETWEEN 8:00 AM AND 12:00 NOON:

1. Drink first bottle of contrast at 11:00 PM the night before your exam.
2. Do not eat or drink anything after drinking this bottle.
3. Drink second bottle of contrast one hour before arrival for exam.

FOR X-RAYS SCHEDULED AFTER 12:00 NOON:

1. Drink first bottle of contrast at 8:00 AM, the morning of the exam.
2. Do not eat of drink anything after drinking this bottle.
3. Drink second bottle of contrast one hour before arrival for exam.

Upon arrival you will be given additional contrast to drink.

You will also be given a consent form for administration of IV contrast to read and sign.

The x-ray will take approximately 30-45 minutes.
